Interface configuration (ifconfig) is a command line utility tool used to configure network interfaces in Unix and Linux operating systems.
In most of the newly installed Linux systems if you tried to view your network configurations using the “ifconfig” command you’ll be prompted with an error as shown in the below screenshot.

This is a simple guide to fix ifconfig command not found in the Linux operating system.

To fix ifconfig command not found, just install the net-tools package on your system. To install net-tools, open terminal and type

$ sudo apt-get install net-tools

Then type the admin password to start the net-tools installation process.
When the net-tools installation has finished successfully, type ifconfig to test whether it works or not. Now, it must work perfectly without any issue.

  1. How i can fix it????

    ubaid@ubaid-HP-EliteBook-8470p:~$ sudo apt-get install net-tools
    Reading package lists… Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information… Done
    You might want to run ‘apt –fix-broken install’ to correct these.
    The following packages have unmet dependencies:
    dkms : Depends: gcc but it is not going to be installed
    Depends: make or
    build-essential but it is not going to be installed or
    dpkg-dev but it is not going to be installed
    Recommends: fakeroot
    E: Unmet dependencies. Try ‘apt –fix-broken install’ with no packages (or specify a solution).
